Small Batch Quality Goods From Our Community to Yours

A core philosophy at Brixton is to create enduring classics that only get better with time. Brixton’s Workshop Collective was launched in this spirit, celebrating craft brought to life through the makers and creators around us.

Our passion for community and creativity takes shape in our limited edition collection of unique products made by a select group of talented artisans. This curated lineup of small-batch, sustainable goods is here just in time for the holidays with handmade lifestyle accessories perfectly tailored for thoughtful gifting.

Carrie Lau’s studio in Highland Park, Los Angeles, has deep roots in her neighborhood while taking inspiration from around the world. Born in Hong Kong, she’s a maker who draws on diverse influences, including the texture and feel of her materials and the energy of her local creative community, for a constant source of fresh ideas.

She’s a talented creative force who applies her passions to illustration, art direction and ceramics—and we’re thrilled to feature a signature handmade mug and accessory dish. Grounded in contemporary minimalism, her modern, naturalistic forms keep things light with a playful edge.

Meet the Maker

Carrie Lau — O-M Ceramics

What inspired you to start your business?

“I have felt connected since I first learned ceramics. It makes me become more mindful at the moment of creating. The more that I make, I realize I enjoy the way that I can communicate my ideas to myself through my hands and work. I decided to take my art to market, and O-M Ceramics gradually grew into a brand.”

Was there a person who helped teach you your craft?

“I've been meeting a lot of people on my journey who have helped me grow, from design to ceramics studios, craft market to art show, ceramics buddies to small business owners. I am so grateful everyone shared their experiences and stories that inspired me so that I can stick with my intention.
”

Why is it so important to you personally to hand-craft your pieces?

“Using my hands to create brings me back to my childhood. There is freedom, innocence, and playfulness over there that you don't over-think too much. The touch of texture of materials opens my sense of creation. The materials itself inspired me and that was part of my creative process to begin a project. It gives every single piece a character; it is truly one of a kind by being hand-crafted.”

How does Sustainability play a role in your approach to the goods you create?

“The practice of sustainability is important. I have been using, recycling and repurposing the materials as much as I can to reduce any waste from my process.”

Why did working with Brixton on the Workshop Collective feel like the right opportunity?

“Collaborating with brands and people is always exciting. I love the idea from Workshop Collective to bring hand-crafted artists together and support each other. I appreciate the opportunity, and being able to showcase my practice, process and work alongside other amazing artists and Brixton is rewarding.”
