Jordan Griska is a Brooklyn-based artist who creates monumental sculpture. His work takes symbols of American culture and identity and reinterprets their identity to engage the viewer in a dialogue of environmental and sociopolitical issues.
Griska has spent the past two years working on a life-size replica of a crashed Mercedes Benz S550 in a piece titled, “Wreck.” The sculpture is made up of thousands of pieces of glimmering stainless steel, each elaborately cut and shaped to offer a reflection of the landscape of today’s automobile and American society at large.
“Wreck” opened on Thursday October 27th at Pier 9 in a show curated by Philadelphia Contemporary. Pier 9 is located at Race Street and N. Columbus Blvd, Philadelphia, PA.
