We are at one week and counting until the 1st night of this years Johnny Rad Fest kicks off on Thursday the 28th. Wrapping up the 3 nights of music is Reigning Sound making their way to San Diego from Asheville, North Carolina. I have only had the opportunity to see Reigning Sound once and to hear of them playing on the west coast is a rare thing. If you haven’t gotten your tickets for Saturday yet, act fast. Here is a couple tracks from their 2005 live performance at Goner Records in Memphis, Tennessee.

The Kabbs are playing Day 2 (Friday) of the Johnny Rad Fest and will also be opening up for Ty Segall on July 21st on Casbah. We’ve been good friends with singer Brian Clinebell for awhile now and can’t get enough of The Kabbs, for more info click HERE.

“Never Knew”

The Lumps will be playing Day 1 (Thursday) of The Johnny Rad Fest, supporting The Spits. Melissa from Thirsty Moon records in San Diego sings in this three piece punk band. The Lumps have been playing a bunch of shows in the San Diego/LA area so come out and see them!

Front man David Urtuno aka GORDO started Embalmers more than a few years back. He has been playing music pretty much his whole life and has been in a lot of great bands, he is a very talented singer/guitar player and always puts on a great show. Make sure you come out to Thursday, Night One of The Johnny Rad Fest to watch them play!

Continuing our countdown to the event, we are featuring bands that are performing at our Johnny Rad Festival in San Diego, CA July 28th-30th. This week we bring you The Half Rats, who were also featured in our Summer 2011 Video (Watch HERE).

We’ve featured The Half Rats on Wednesdays on Wax before, but in case you missed it, here they are again. Our friend TJ Brock, who also plays in CoCoComa and Ryan Pitts, who also plays in The Boy Toys, have been playing amazing garage rock in the Chicago area for years now. We have also used The Half Rats in two of our videos, Summer 2011 and Fall 2010, and we wouldn’t think twice to use them again. Come out to San Diego for our 2011 Johnny Rad Fest and catch them!
