Brixton Wednesdays On Wax: Bare Wires & Rudimentary Peni
Wednesday, May 9th, 2012This week’s record picks are a little random, but we wanted to share some examples of the new and old tunes that inspire us day to day. Here’s Oakland’s Bare Wires and the legendary anarcho-punks Rudimentary Peni.
The Bare Wires are an awesome punk/pop/rock & roll band from Oakland, which is the home base for some of our other favorite bands like Nobunny, Shannon and the Clams and Hunx and his Punx. We ended up hearing about Bare Wires for the first time at this year’s SXSW, if you can believe it… They opened up for King Tuff with more energy then anyone expected and proceeded to blow us away. Check out a few tracks off their latest offering Cheap Perfume.

Rudimentary Peni – The E.P.’s of R.P.
Rudimentary Peni are one of those bands that are still around (for over 30 years), but most fans continue to cite the two releases featured on this record as their best work. Frontman/Visual Artist Nick Blinko originally started his music and art career in 1977 with an electronic-band called The Magits before forming Rudimentary Peni, eventually signing to the UK punk pioneer’s Crass’ record label. Over the years the band has remained intact, but has been through many ups and downs due to Blinko’s Schizoaffective disorder. Here’s a couple tracks to help get you familiar:
