This week we bring you some tracks from before we were born, check em out!
First up is the “Loudest Band in Town” Gonn from Keokuk, IA. Gonn was an underground garage-rock band who are one of our absolute favorites to play. This album is great from beginning to end. Here’s “Death of an Angel” from 1966:

Next is blues legend Sonny Boy Williamson. Williamson was imitated by many but is remembered as one of the most influential and original harmonica-playing blues singers. He waxed over 120 sides and many of his songs have become blues standards. Here is “Check Up on my Baby”

For the third year now Johnny Rad Fest has come and gone and left us with bruised bodies and ringing eardrums. Our good friend Tyrone Taylor “Clean Cuts DJ” has been working hard for the past three years to bring San Diego some great underground bands. The three day festival was full of some amazing performances from The Spits, Nobunny, Tokyo Electron, the Zeros, The Half Rats, The Kabbs, The Wax Idols, The Boy Toys and many other great bands. Inside are photos from some of the shows.
In honor of this weekend’s Johnny Rad Festival in North Park San Diego, we bring you a couple of the headlining bands. Get ready, Johnny Rad Fest 3 starts tomorrow!

First up we have NoBunny currently hailing from Oakland, CA. NoBunny always puts on a great show with amazing tunes and a performance that is both insane and creative. They play Friday at the Ken Club in Kensington, San Diego so if you like to party we’ll see you there!

Next we have The Half-Rats from Lafayette, IN. Everything they have put out is must-have and their shows are always a good time. They don’t play very often so be sure to come out to the Ken Club in Kensington, San Diego on Saturday for some good old Rock n’ Roll!

Some photos taken from photographer Aaron Checkwood of the Oceanside 4th of July parade. They would’ve gone up sooner but film takes time to develop. These photos just say AMERICA!

This week we invited our friends Gabe and Richie from LSDJs to choose some of their go-to tracks.
Richie: “Ken Hensley of Uriah Heep provides the crushing keys and howling vocals in one of my all-time favorite songs “Sweet Morning Light”. This jam is best played loud first thing in the morning with a wicked hangover, or after a toke. Enjoy!”

Gabe: “OK so this is Can with an obscure, epic and jam packed killer of a tune that will hopefully engage your interest in Kraut-Rock. Can goes in yer ears and our yer eyes as an essential song for the soundtrack of yer life. “Paperhouse” puts you in a trance perfect for yer 150 mile jaunts on yer motorcycle through the country. Kickstart!”
