This week, in honor of tonight’s Bob Seger concert I will be attending, we salute him with a look at his early work as well as one of his more popular albums Stranger In Town.

The Bob Seger System – Ramblin’ Gamblin’ Man

First up is the 1969 release from The Bob Seger System (Seger’s second band) featuring his first national single “Ramblin’ Gamblin’ Man”. This album is a great representation of the late 60s Detroit music scene, blending aspects of rock, blues, funk and soul creating a sound similar to the local bands of the same time such as MC5 and The Stooges. I think the album art is a little misleading but check out these tracks and you’ll see…

“2+2=?”

“Down Home”

Bob Seger and the Silver Bullet Band – Stranger in Town

I originally bought this album because a buddy of mine said most Seger albums were long out of print. I later learned that wasn’t exactly true after I had purchased a second copy of this album (it’s the albums pre-1974 that are rare). Another fun fact is this album features more than 25 musicians on it’s 9 tracks. Anyways this album has plenty of jukebox hits that never get old so sit back and have a listen.

“Ain’t Got No Money”

“Feel Like a Number”
