Brixton Wednesdays on Wax: The Greenhornes & The Oblivians

  • Posted on: September 26, 2012

This week we’re featuring some good ol’ midwestern and southern garage tunes from The Greenhornes & The Oblivians.

The Greenhornes - Dual Mono

The Greenhornes have recently gone on to do some great things like help Jack White form The Raconteurs and The Dead Weather, but their own material is in a league of it’s own. This album from 2002 is packed with awesome tunes start-to-finish, ending with my favorite track: “Gonna Get Me Someone” a duet with Holly Golightly. Do yourself a favor and get familiar:

The Oblivians - Soul Food

The Oblivians have been described as anything but conventional. All of their records sound distinctly different from each other, but all possess the same kick that keeps their fans completely devoted to their music. Although they’re technically broken up, they still play the occasional reunion show, like this weekend at Goner Record’s Gonerfest 9. If you’re near Memphis tomorrow night go check them out!
