Brixton Wednesdays on Wax: Personal & the Pizzas and Strange Boys
Today we have a personal favorite from Personal and the Pizzas and a record I picked up a couple weeks ago from Strange Boys when they opened up for Reigning Sound in Long Beach.
Personal & the Pizzas – Raw Pie
A couple years ago at SXSW in Austin, Texas I had a friend tell me I must go see a band called Personal and the Pizzas. I decided I was going on the band’s name alone and they definitely lived up to their recommendation. Personal and the Pizzas play Stooges and Ramones influenced rock and roll with the cool and calm demeanor of Arthur Fonzarelli. All toped off with New Jersey accents and lyrics about Pizza, what is not to love? Here is ”I Don’t Wanna Be No Personal Pizza”, “Tearjerker” and “I Don’t Feel So Happy Now No More” off of Raw Pie.

Strange Boys - And Girls Club
I picked up this next record a couple weeks ago when we went to see Reigning Sound play in Long Beach. Austin, Texas band the Strange Boys were on stage when we arrived to the show and were commanding the crowds attention. And Girls Club the band’s third album was released in 2009 by In The Red Records. This album does a great job of transitioning between up tempo garage-rock songs and more slowed down numbers that remind me of Bob Dylan at times. Here is “This Girl Taught Me a Dance” and “A Man You’ve Never Known”.
