Brixton Wednesdays on Wax: Lou Reed and The Partisans

This week we bring you Lou Reed‘s Berlin and The PartisansPolice Story.

First up is Lou Reed‘s Berlin which was the follow-up to the hit album Transformer. Berlin was recorded as a tragic rock opera about a struggling couple in an exaggerated post-World War II world. The album was originally intended to have a stage adaptation but the plans were shelved due to mixed reviews and poor record sales. More than 30 years later the idea was brought to life as a 5 night concert filmed and directed by Julian Schnabel. We chose to share “Caroline Says II” from side-B, enjoy.

Next we chose The Partisans Police Story. This is a compilation from 2002 featuring a selection of The Partisans‘ earlier material. The Partisans are definitely one of our favorite punk bands of all time and their music speaks for itself. We chose the first two tracks they recorded together (as teenagers): “Police Story” and “Killing Machine”.
