Brixton Wednesdays on Wax: Radio Birdman and Lynyrd Skynyrd
This week our friend Tyrone Taylor helped us out again and sent a few records to use for Wednesdays on Wax. The two that were picked are: Radio Birdman‘s Radios Appear, and Skynyrd‘s Street Survivors.
Radio Birdman was an Australian punk band formed in Sydney in 1974. Although Radio Birdman only released two full length albums they are considered a major influence in the progression of Australia’s musical scene. After four years Radio Birdman called it quits but recently returned with a full-length album in 2006 titled Zeno Beach. Tyrone wanted us to put up “Anglo Girl Desire”. We also had to include “Hand of Law”:

The next album we have is Street Survivors by Lynyrd Skynyrd. This album was released three days before the infamous plane crash that took Ronnie Van Zandt and Steve and Cassie Gaines lives. The original cover (Pictured) features the band standing in flames but was replaced after the crash with an alternate photo of the band with a black background. Our pick from this album is a cover of Merle Haggard’s, “Honky Tonk Night Time Man”.
