Homage

Here are two pics from the boat our grandfather served on during WWII. It was the USS Kalk DD 611. On May 27th, 1944, while participating in the Biak invasion, a Japanese bomb hit Kalk amidships, causing severe damage to the ship and heavy casualties among her crew. The photo of then crewmen bowing their heads was from the burial at sea service after the attack. Luckily our grandpa survived the attack but broke his back, he was thrown back against the ship from the explosion.—David, Peter, and Ted Stoddard
