Brixton Wednesdays on Wax: Bazooka & Komodina 3 (Greece)

May 22nd, 2013

For this week’s vinyl showcase we’re sharing some records the kind folks over at Slovenly Recordings sent us, which both happen to hail from Greece. Here’s the debut full-length from Athens’ Bazooka along with an archival release of Komodina 3‘s Self-Titled LP.

BazookaS/T

Originally from Volos, and now relocated to Athens, Bazooka turns the knob to 11 with their new full-length. A more mature effort from their first single released last year, this record brings forth a severe assault of Garage Rock that only a crumbling Greek economy and utter crisis of the entire country can provide the lyrical and musical ammunition for. Bazooka’s 2-guitar, 2-drum and no-bass unit, yes there are 2 drummers, blast an amazing amount of energy on this one, described as surly and riff-heavy “with just enough pop sensibility to keep it from being heavier than a death in the family”. Click below to hear a couple of our favorites and go grab the vinyl HERE!

“Ravening Trip”

“Shame Take My Brain”

Komodina 3 (Κομοδίνα 3)S/T

From Thessaloniki, Greece, Komodina originally recorded this album in 2005 and pressed 80 CDs which were only promo’d and when it came time for their first show, they had to back out due to weather conditions making them the first band we’ve featured on WoW to have never played live… In 2012 Slovenly owner Pete Menchetti heard a pirated copy while in Europe with Bazooka and Gay Anniversary and instantly adds to them to the list of amazing reissues on the label. Fast, raw and sung entirely in Greek, this record is sure to satisfy your roots-punk rock needs.

“Metempsyhosi Blues”

“Rihte Ki Allo”

About Slovenly

Founded in 2002, Slovenly Recordings was a new direction for label veteran Pete “Stickerguy” Menchetti. Having just scrapped his 702 Records (Scared of Chaka/ The Loudmouths) imprint, Pete was on a mission to release only the best in garage and punk shit rock for crazy kids all over the planet. Starting with a very fine full length release by the Netherlands’ swampiest caveman blues duo Lo-Lite, Slovenly has grown to be one of the most respected labels world wide for rip-roaring REAL rock’n'roll!

All releases available on VINYL as well as many on CD. They have an extensive selection of ass-whoopin’
45s available, too! Check out more at Slovenly.com
