Brixton Wednesdays On Wax: The Stooges and Joe Strummer & The Mescaleros
May 23rd, 2012This week we have some tunes from the always inspirational Iggy Pop and Joe Strummer. We picked these up from a cool new little record shop in the neighborhood called Standards.
The Stooges – Funhouse
There was a quote on this album’s shrink wrap that pretty much perfectly describes this record so I’m just going to use that for the write up: “You. Out there. What are you doing? Do you long to have your mind blown open so wide that it will take weeks for you to pick up the little, bitty pieces? Do you yearn for the oh-mind? Do you ache to feel all right? Then by all means, you simply must come visit us at the Stooges’ Funhouse.” – Charlie Burton, 1970

“1970″
*Fun Fact: Radio Birdman got their name from this song, confusing the lyric “Radio burnin’ up above”

Joe Strummer & The Mescaleros - Streetcore
This album contains the final recordings of Joe Strummer, and arguably some of his best work since The Clash. Streetcore was released posthumously in 2003 and due to Strummer’s untimely death, many of the recordings are first takes. There are also several songs recorded with iconic record producer Rick Rubin which might not have been originally intended to be on this record. We love this album, here’s a couple gems:
